# Telehealth GLP-1 providers, explained.

Start with the visit, the person checking your health, and what the whole bill includes.

THE MYTH

Online care is just a checkout.

THE FACT

## Care comes before a prescription.

Telehealth is care from a health professional at a distance. They still need to check your health.

## What these medicines are

GLP-1 is a gut hormone, a signal that helps manage hunger and blood sugar.

Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus) copies that signal.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) acts on that signal and another gut hormone.

Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda) is an older member of this medicine family.

## Online care can be real

For these medicines, federal rules as of September 2026 allow a telehealth prescription without a prior visit in person.

State rules still decide what the visit and health check must include.

As of September 2026, your doctor needs a license or other permission to treat you in whichever state you are in during the visit.

Possible routes include licensed telehealth care and an in-person clinic.

Ask who will check your health, how to check their license, and how to get help between visits.

## The product matters too

For a particular medical use, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) checks the medicine.

In September 2026, FDA-approved products exist for semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide.

As of September 2026, approved weight-management products include semaglutide (Wegovy), tirzepatide (Zepbound), and liraglutide (Saxenda).

A compounded medicine is a drug that a pharmacist or doctor prepares to fill an order.

Compounded medicines do not have FDA approval as of September 2026.

Before comparing care or cost, ask for the medicine’s full name and whether it is taken as a pill or given as a shot.

## Words that make the choice clearer

Telehealth

A doctor or another health professional provides care through video calls, phone calls, or written questions and answers online. State rules decide which kinds of visit are allowed.

FDA-approved

FDA approval means that a specific product has been reviewed for a stated medical use.

Compounded medicine

A medicine prepared to fill an order by a pharmacist or doctor.
